In relation to the newer white AP-1 and AP-2: If your eyes are not that good, I recommend either TDS-3 or EC-3. They have larger digits in display, that can be seen in the video on this page, that also contains detailed info about the difference between ppm and MicroSiemens (µS) all along with a comparison between all handheld meters.
